PORTLAND, Maine (AP) - Several additional Maine residents are heading to Texas to help with the aftermath of what is now Tropical Storm Harvey.
The Portland Press Herald reports (https://bit.ly/2xy4lAG ) 14 volunteers or staff members with the Maine branch of the American Red Cross are joining in the relief effort.
Maine Red Cross volunteers Corina Hamlin and Bill Thomas are driving 2,000 miles to help deliver an emergency response vehicle. Hamlin tells the newspaper she will be there for any support people need, whether it means food, shelter or a hug.
Red Cross disaster liaison Laurie Levine says volunteers are coming in from all over the country. Still, she says the recovery won’t begin until after the rain stops and people start returning to their homes.
