PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - Rhode Island’s acting commissioner of postsecondary education has been approved to fill the position permanently.

The Providence Journal reports (https://bit.ly/2w9nHLM ) that the state Board of Education voted Wednesday to approve the appointment of Brenda Dann-Messier.

Dann-Messier was unanimously recommended by the Council on Postsecondary Education. She was named acting commission in April after the departure of Jim Purcell, who became the executive director of the Alabama Commission on Higher Education.

Dann-Messier says she is committed to the governor’s goal of ensuring that 75 percent of Rhode Island’s young adults attain some level of college education by 2025.
