New York biologists hold trout stream management meetings

ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) - State biologists are holding public meetings around the state about trout stream management.

The meetings will start with a presentation describing how the Department of Environmental Conservation currently manages trout streams, and will include findings of a statewide study done in 2015.

Members of the public will have an opportunity to give feedback on their preferences for trout stream management.

Trout have been documented in over 3,000 New York streams, and over 80 percent of those streams support wild trout. In 2016, hatchery-raised trout were stocked in 444 streams.

The first meeting is scheduled for Sept. 13 in Ballston Spa. Meetings will be held in each region and posted on DEC’s website .
