The haters were hating on first lady Melania Trump Tuesday for her choice of shoes as she departed the White House with President Trump to visit flood-ravaged Texas.

Mrs. Trump walked out of the White House wearing four-inch black heels to board Marine One Tuesday morning, and critics on social media vented their bile.

“Melania headed to a disaster zone in stilettos is my Halloween costume,” tweeted actor Zach Braff in one of the milder critiques.

By the time Air Force One landed in Texas, Mrs. Trump was wearing white sneakers.

“It’s sad that we have an active and ongoing natural disaster in Texas, and people are worried about her shoes,” said the first lady’s Communications Director Stephanie Grisham.

Mrs. Trump said her visit to the disaster zone has motivated her “to be able to offer my help and support in the most productive way possible, not through just words, but also action.”

“What I found to be the most profound during the visit was not only the strength and resilience of the people of Texas, but the compassion and sense of community that has taken over the state,” the first lady said. “My thoughts and prayers continue to be with the people of Texas and Louisiana.”
