ESSEX, Vt. (AP) - A developer is proposing a major project to revitalize a shopping center in the Vermont town of Essex.

The Burlington Free Press reports (https://bfpne.ws/2wObuPZ ) Essex residents, town officials and developer Peter Edelmann discussed potential changes to the Essex Shoppes and Cinema center at a Planning Commission meeting last week. Edelmann, a developer with EuroWest Properties Inc., has proposed adding six-story apartment buildings along with new commercial attractions.

Some residents are concerned with the size of the project. Others worry affordable housing won’t be included.

Edelmann maintains the center isn’t large enough to succeed as it stands. Essex Planning Commissioner Ned Daly is asking residents to consider changes that could make the center more attractive and profitable.

According to Edelmann, the redevelopment plan will include ideas from the public.
