MONTPELIER, Vt. (AP) - The cable giant Comcast is asking a federal judge to overturn portions of its Vermont operating permit, arguing that compliance will cost it $4 million.
In a lawsuit filed Tuesday in U.S. District Court in Burlington, Comcast says the company’s Vermont customers would not want to pay the extra cost and it rejected the idea it should pay the cost on its own.
Last January, the Vermont Public Utilities Commission issued Comcast a new 11-year operating permit known as a Certificate of Public Good. Among the conditions were requiring Comcast to include local programs on its program guide and extend its system by more 550 miles.
Comcast asked the PUC to reconsider, but last month the commission refused to do so.
