LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) - An Arkansas nonprofit has launched a $12.6 million project to help 30,000 farmers in Kenya increase the quantity and improve the quality of the milk they produce.
Little-Rock based Heifer International announced the public-private partnership on Tuesday.
The project is slated to last four years and will involve animal health training, livestock feeding, business development, milk handling and hygiene.
The Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency has contributed $2.7 million to the project. Another $1 million will be provided by Kenya’s state-run New Kenya Co-operative Creameries, which sources milk from about 60,000 farmers across that country.
Sweden-based company Tetra Laval will contribute technical assistance and expertise.
