RENO, Nev. (AP) - Record heat has returned to northern Nevada and should continue this week during one of the region’s hottest summers ever.
The National Weather Service says Sunday’s high of 100 degrees at Reno-Tahoe International Airport tied the record for that day set in 1924.
It’s the 13th time this summer the mercury has reached or exceeded the century mark in Reno. That ties the record for triple-digit highs during a single year set in 1972.
Monday’s forecast for Reno calls for the high to reach anywhere from 97 to 102 degrees. The record for the date was 99 degrees set in 2001. Records have been kept at the airport since 1937.
The National Weather Service says the triple-degree days this year started with 103 on June 19. The highest temperature so far was 104 on June 20, July 8 and Aug. 2.
