NEWARK, N.J. (AP) - A street shooting in New Jersey’s largest city has left two brothers dead.

Essex County prosecutors say 25-year-old Jose Castillo-Granados and 22-year-old Francisco Castillo-Granados were both shot early Sunday in the Ironbound section of Newark. The two city residents were taken to a hospital, but each was pronounced dead there a short time later.

Prosecutors say the shooting stemmed from a dispute that appeared to be an isolated incident. They say the brothers appeared to know their assailant but declined further comment, citing the ongoing investigation.

No arrests have been made.

Authorities say 44 people have been murdered in Newark this year.
