WARRENDALE, Ore. (AP) - An American Medical Response team rescued a hiker who suffered life-threatening injuries after falling on a trail above Elowah Falls near Ainsworth State Park.

Officials say they were called at about 10 a.m. Saturday after nearby hikers heard the man fall and called for help.

The man was hiking above the falls and fell about 150 feet (45.7 meters) and landed in the creek. The hikers pulled the injured man out of the water provided first aid until the rescue team arrived.

The team and paramedics loaded the man into a rescue basket and used a rope system to get him up short vertical segments to reach the trail.

Once out of the park, the man was taken by ambulance to a helicopter, which carried him to a Portland hospital.
