DAVENPORT, Iowa (AP) - A man accused of killing his parents in Davenport has been found competent for trial.
The Quad-City Times reports that Judge John Telleen said Thursday that, based on a psychiatric examination, the trial of 21-year-old Sean Freese could be held. Freese’s attorneys had asked for the evaluation so they could determine whether Freese may have been suffering from some condition that rendered him incapable of realizing what he was doing the day his parents were killed. One of the attorneys, Michael Motto, says they won’t seek a defense of insanity or diminished responsibility based on the evaluation.
Authorities say Sean Freese shot to death 58-year-old Kevin Freese and 57-year-old Donna Freese on Oct. 5 at the home they shared.
The trial is scheduled to begin Oct. 2.
