ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) - There will be a familiar name on the Texas Rangers’ new $1.1 billion retractable-roof baseball stadium.

The team said Thursday that the stadium opening in 2020 will be known as Globe Life Field. That stadium is being built directly across the street from Globe Life Park, where the Rangers have played since 1994.

Texas-based Globe Life and Accident Insurance Company reached a naming rights deal with the Rangers before the 2014 season. That deal continues through 2023, and a new extension goes through 2048.

Arlington voters last November approved the extension of a half-cent sales tax, 2 percent hotel-occupancy tax and 5 percent car-rental tax for the stadium.

That revenue now goes toward defraying the city’s $155 million debt on its share of the cost of the Dallas Cowboys’ AT&T Stadium, which opened in 2009 near the Rangers ballpark.
