BOSTON (AP) - Court records show that charges against a Boston sports arena guard accused of beating a disabled homeless man at a train station could be dropped if he meets certain requirements, including staying out of legal trouble for the next four years.

The Boston Globe reports (https://bit.ly/2xeFxNI ) that Rene Norestant Jr. will also be required to perform 100 hours of community service, complete anger management classes and have no contact with the alleged victim.

Norestant’s lawyer called Monday’s ruling fair because his client had no criminal record. Norestant previously said he was defending himself.

Prosecutors called it an unprovoked attack and said a conviction and jail time would have been appropriate.

Norestant was fired by a firm that provided security at TD Garden.
