HOUSTON (AP) - A Harris County deputy constable has been fired after authorities say he withheld information about a traffic wreck last weekend where one person was killed.

Constable Mark Herman says the deputy, whose name he didn’t provide, attempted a traffic stop Saturday night but lost the vehicle as it fled and never saw it lose control and crash. A passenger was killed and the driver was hurt.

Harris County sheriff’s deputies responded to the wreck after a passing motorist called 911.

Herman says the deputy didn’t say anything about his chase related to the crash until two days later when he provided some details to a supervisor. Herman says the deputy could have handled the situation better, so he fired him.

The Harris County District Attorney’s office is investigating the case.
