LINCOLN, R.I. (AP) - State police say the baseball coach at Lincoln High School has been charged with embezzling money from a fundraising program for the team.
A not guilty plea was entered Monday on behalf of 32-year-old Andrew Hallam, of Warwick, at his district court arraignment.
State police said Hallam allegedly embezzled $8,440 over a three-year period from the program run with the help of an outside contractor that raised funds for the baseball program.
Investigators say Hallam was responsible for collecting money that the high school players raised by selling $20 discount cards, and for returning unsold cards to the contractor.
State police began the probe in June after its Financial Crimes Unit received information from the Lincoln School Committee.
A judge released Hallam on $10,000 personal recognizance.
