WILMINGTON, Vt. (AP) - A longtime Rutland police officer who helped develop the city’s response to the opiate scourge is going to become the new town manager in the southern Vermont town of Wilmington.

Scott Tucker signed his contract with the select board on Wednesday night. He will start his new job Aug. 28.

Tucker worked for the Rutland City Police Department for 37 years, including as field training corporal, patrol sergeant and support-services captain. He also helped with drug investigations.

Tucker was also the first executive director of Project VISION, an organization credited with helping reduce crime in the face of the opioid epidemic and improving Rutland’s quality of life.

The Brattleboro Reformer (https://bit.ly/2fRYOR4 ) reports Tucker will supervise about 30 full-time and part-time employees while developing and administering Wilmington’s $4.5 million town budget.
