JUNEAU, Alaska (AP) - In the next two weeks, the homeless people who call the land at the mouth of Gold Creek home will have to find another place to sleep.

The Juneau Empire reports (https://bit.ly/2fVSBDB ) City and Borough of Juneau spokeswoman Lisa Phu said Friday in an email the Alaska Mental Health Trust Authority is clearing the area out because it intends on leasing part of the property in question and is preparing the land for the lease.

On Tuesday, the homeless will be given a two-week notice to vacate. The city will start enforcing trespassing laws Sept. 5.

Phu says the city is “encouraging” those on the land, which is also known as the Juneau subport, to use other locations for shelter, such as The Glory Hole homeless shelter downtown.
