OPINION:
Ahh, Hollywood. The bubble of the West Coast — the Tinsel Town of hypocrisy and anti-conservative hate.
And my, how this White House, this president, do bring out the nasty of stars.
Chris Evans, “Captain America,” the guy whose cartoonish image is supposed to bring forth images of flying U.S. flags and “Star Spangles Banner” singing crowds with hands over hearts, just weighed in on President Donald Trump in a very public, very classless, very unpatriotic way.
When Trump last week told a roomful of law enforcement officers not to “be too nice” to MS-13 “thugs being thrown into the back of a paddy wagon,” the police laughed — but Evans mounted his high horse.
“You reckless moron,” he tweeted. “Do you have any idea what you’re encouraging? You think a ’joke’ makes it ok?? ZERO societal awareness and understanding.”
When Trump a few days back tweeted that “after consultation with my Generals and military experts, please be advised that the United States Government will not accept or allow Transgender individuals to serve in any capacity in the U.S. military” and that “our military … cannot be burdened with the tremendous medical costs and disruption that transgender in the military would entail,” liberals in the West Coast enclave went nuts.
It’s like Trump announced a nuclear attack on North Korea, a coordinated military invasion of Russia.
“No. My God. This must be challenged,” tweeted Mia Farrow.
And this, from George Takei, of “Star Trek” Sulu character fame, who tweeted of Trump: “History shall record that you are not only the stupidest, most incompetent president ever, but also the cruelest and pettiest.”
He followed with this: “Donald: With your ban on trans people from the military, you are on notice that you just pissed off the wrong community. You will regret it.”
The Rise of the Transgenders? It does have a ring to it.
Then comes Martin Sheen, an actor of near icon status. Here are his true thoughts on America, the country which gave him so much.
When asked by reporters at the Television Critics Association in Beverly Hills about his thoughts on the Trump administration, Sheen said, Breitbart noted: “We were doing so well without any mention of that dark force.”
And when pressed about his view of filming his upcoming PBS season of “Anne of Green Gables” in Canada, not America, Sheen quipped: “I’m always delighted … so relieved to leave the Land of Lunatics.”
Nice. Bite the hand that feeds.
Meanwhile, there was this, a headline just a couple weeks ago from KPCC: “Hundreds in Hollywood call for an end to the Trump Administration.”
They marked that call with a rally and speeches.
“In the name of humanity, we refuse to accept a fascist America,” said Michelle Xai, according to KPCC’s story.
Remember: These are the people who at one time pined to be noticed — pined for fame and fortune and the chance to recognized as Important and Special. And when America rewards them with that wish?
They turn and attack, slam and slander, and then go back to the gated and guarded communities that keep out the riff-raff that gave them their cushy seclusion in the first place. That’s not just disloyal. That’s offensive. And it’s a breed of Hollywood that ought to be boycotted. Martin Sheen, Chris Evans and the rest: Jimmy Stewart, you are not. Not even close.
