LOS ANGELES (AP) - The FBI says a man suspected in the 2009 killing of a popular Los Angeles street vendor who sold tamales has been extradited from Guatemala.
Investigators say 35-year-old Werner Rafael Francisco was brought back to the U.S. Tuesday night.
The Guatemalan citizen is accused of fatally shooting 46-year-old Cosme Gonzalez in February 2009.
Gonzalez had been selling tamales in the Westlake neighborhood, west of downtown Los Angeles, for about 20 years.
Investigators say Francisco had been extorting a “street tax” from the man.
They say a Francisco was quickly identified as a suspect and warrant was issued for his arrest in March 2009 but he fled the U.S.
Francisco was arrested in Guatemala in February.
It wasn’t immediately clear if he had an attorney who could comment on the allegations.
