MONTPELIER, Vt. (AP) - All Vermont state flags at state buildings are at half-staff over to honor a Vermont State Police trooper who died of brain cancer.

State flags were lowered at sunrise Friday to honor Cpl. Daniel Marcellus who died this week after a battle with brain cancer. The flags will remain lowered until sunset Saturday.

State Police Col. Matthew Birmingham says the 35-year-old Marcellus was a dedicated member of the state police who served Vermont honorably and was taken way too soon.
