ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) - SUNY Cortland has been awarded more than $1.6 million to help education students with an interest in teaching science, technology, engineering and math.
Republican U.S. Rep. Claudia Tenney, of central New York, announced the funding decision Tuesday. The money comes from the National Science Foundation.
SUNY Cortland will use the money for the Robert Noyce Teacher’s Scholarship program, which helps train math and science teachers.
The money will also pay for regional conferences for students and educators to work on ways to improve the teaching of math-heavy topics in high-need school districts.
Tenney says the program will help both education students and school administrators build stronger STEM programs in the future.
