CONCORD, N.H. (AP) - Residents in the New Hampshire capital will get the chance to vote on whether to allow a lottery game in restaurants and bars whose proceeds will to fund full-day kindergarten.
The Concord Monitor (https://bit.ly/2vFb9M3 ) reports that city councilors voted Monday to add the question to November ballots and hold a public hearing to discuss the proposal.
The New Hampshire Legislature approved a plan this year to fund full-day kindergarten partly with revenue from the Keno lottery game. Communities will decide whether to allow the game. Franklin approved it last week. Manchester and Nashua considering it soon.
Regardless of whether a community allows the game, districts that offer full-day kindergarten will receive an additional $1,100 per student. The kindergarten plan was one of Republican Gov. Chris Sununu’s top priorities.
