The Phoenix Suns have been rumored as a potential trade partner ever since reports surfaced that Kyrie Irving had requested a trade away from the Cleveland Cavaliers, with their talented point guard Eric Bledsoe and plethora of young players and draft picks.
One of those young assets, rookie small forward Josh Jackson, says that he doesn’t anticipate Kyrie coming to Phoenix anytime soon.
“I think if that was gonna happen, it would have happened by now,” Jackson said during a recent appearance on SiriusXM NBA Radio.
The fourth overall pick in the 2017 NBA Draft, Jackson is one of the players the Cavaliers reportedly covet in a potential Irving trade, but as of now it appears Phoenix is unwilling to part with the 20-year old.
Jackson said he’s been staying off social media as trade rumors have continued to swirl, doing his best to stay focused despite the uncertainty.
“I handled it the same way I tried to handle draft night,” Jackson said. “Coming in, I didn’t really know what was going to happen, I still don’t know what’s going to happen. But I’m going to make the best of whatever situation I’m presented with. If I’m traded to China, whatever, I’m gonna come out, and I’m gonna be happy and just try to make the best of it.”
The Kansas product went on to say that while the Suns never spoke to him about possibly trading him, he was almost certain a deal wouldn’t go down.
“I was kinda in the dark a little bit, but I got a feeling that the trade really wasn’t gonna happen,” Jackson said.
