SPOKANE, Wash. (AP) - An investigation discovered staff at a Spokane veterans affairs hospital ignored a hole in a roof that has been leaking water for about five years.

The Spokesman-Review reports (https://bit.ly/2i0baa6 ) U.S. Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers asked the House Veterans Affairs Committee to come to Spokane and investigate conditions at Mann-Grandstaff VA Medical Center. This after a group of veterans protested about the lack of cooperation from hospital staff.

McMorris Rodgers says the staff has known about the hole but failed to have it repaired, evidenced by a funnel to catch water dripping through the roof into a metal bucket.

McMorris Rodgers says the apparatus is located near the hospital’s electrical panel that powers the entire facility.

Hospital officials did not respond to questions as to why the hole has remained unrepaired.
