PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - A newspaper’s investigation has found at least four cases in the last five months in which youths at state-regulated group homes in Rhode Island were put in situations that left them injured, endangered or exploited as a result of action taken by workers.

The Providence Journal reports (https://bit.ly/2vv7NNg ) the latest case occurred Aug. 7 at a Newport home for girls. State investigators say a worker challenged two girls to fight outside the home, and then his girlfriend assaulted them.

The newspaper reports that a group home didn’t have permission to take a 17-year-old boy to a trampoline park where he fell and suffered paralysis in July. The boy had reportedly been injured there once before.

DCYF officials say any child believed to be unsafe in a group home is “not staying there.”
