MINDEN, La. (AP) - Teachers and employees in one north Louisiana school district are getting raises.
KTBS-TV reports the Webster Parish School District voted Thursday to unfreeze the district’s salary schedule.
The school board stopped normal pay raises seven years ago to save money.
Superintendent Johnny Rowland says the raises will cost $425,000, money that will come from the district’s projected $1.5 million surplus at the end of the recently completed budget year.
Rowland says the unanimous vote shows that the board cares about employees.
In addition to a raise going forward, employees will get extra checks Oct. 31 for back pay accrued so far this school year. The raises don’t apply to school bus drivers, bus attendants, and those who have reached the top of the pay schedule after 25 years.
