PORTLAND, Maine (AP) - Authorities in Maine say a woman was seriously injured while sailing when the mast of a boat snapped and struck her head.

The Portland Press Herald reports (https://bit.ly/2ww7Oz3 ) the accident happened near Portland Harbor around 1:45 p.m. Wednesday. Portland Harbor Master Kevin Battle says three people were sailing aboard a trimaran when the mast of the watercraft broke. Battle says a woman was struck on her head.

Authorities say another boater stopped to help the crew of trimaran before taking the injured woman to the Oliver Hazard Perry which was anchored off House Island. A Portland fireboat transported the woman to Maine Medical Center in Portland.

Battle says the victim suffered a severe head injury. Authorities haven’t released her name or condition.
