LOS ANGELES (AP) - A driver who killed the toddler son of a former MMA fighter in a Los Angeles-area crash has been sentenced to six years in prison.

Seventy-two-year-old Donna Marie Higgins pleaded guilty Thursday to vehicular manslaughter and was immediately sentenced.

Prosecutors say Higgins drove through a Hawthorne crosswalk last September and struck 15-month-old Liam Kowal, who was being pushed in a stroller.

Authorities say Higgins continued to drive for about a block before other drivers boxed in her SUV.

The boy died at a hospital several days later.

His mother and father, ex-MMA fighter Marcus Kowal, have started a foundation to raise awareness about drunken driving.
