LONGMONT, Colo. (AP) - Prosecutors say a man involved in a fatal shooting in the parking lot of a Wal-Mart in northern Colorado will not face charges because he was defending himself.

The Longmont Times-Call reported Tuesday https://goo.gl/XUX5YN that the 34-year-old Northglenn man has been released from custody based on the Weld County district attorney’s decision.

He was arrested for the death of 33-year-old Keith Williams, who was shot in Longmont on July 23.

Investigators say Williams approached the man and fought him with a 16-inch “billy club” or “tire thumper” - a bat-like tool used by truckers to check the air pressure of their tires.

Williams was mad at the man because he was hanging out with his ex-girlfriend.
