OPINION:
Eric Trump said on national television in an interview on Fox News that one of his biggest wishes was for someone to start fighting for his father.
He’s absolutely right. President Donald Trump hasn’t just been the only guy in the ring. He’s also gone far beyond regular fight time, well on his way toward his bazillionth round.
Translation: Why the freak aren’t Republicans fighting for Trump?
Answer: Maybe because they’re spending so much time fighting with Democrats, against him.
One need only look to the whole Obamacare repeal debacle — can you say John McCain? — to see the truth in that statement.
Trump the son put it this way: “I want somebody to start fighting for him. How much weight does he have to carry by himself?”
He also made this common-sense remark, The Hill noted: “My father has the voice of this country, the people of this country love him. Why wouldn’t they get in line? It doesn’t make sense.”
McCain’s against Trump — so much so that he threw Obamacare repeal under the bus just to spite, and despite the fact that Obamacare repeal was his greatest re-election campaign tool.
Jeb Bush is against Trump. He just rallied his Republican base — make that, RINO Republican base — to come out of the shadows to publicly scold Trump on Russia.
Sen. Jeff Flake appears to hate Trump.
In a story titled, “Republican Senator Jeff Flake Rails Against Trump, but to What End?” in The New York Times, book reviewer Jennifer Senior writes of “Conscience of a Conservative,” that “it seems safe to say that Senator Jeff Flake’s new anti-Trump book is politically contraindicated.”
She goes on to write: “Flake has gone ’Bulworth’ on us … call[ing] the president’s Twitter posts ’all noise and no signal.’ “
Let’s not forget all the White House leakers. By definition, they’re anti-Trump, serving it seems simply to undercut the president’s agenda.
Wow. And that’s just off the top of the head.
Capitol Hill is filled with quasi-conservatives, all ready to do the Democratic Party’s bidding, it seems. It goes without saying the mainstream media is anti-Trump personified. And Democrats? The party of resistance has been having a field day, trading off accusations of Russia collusion with calls for impeachment.
So where are the loud defenders of Trump?
That’d be the people — the ones without a platform. The same people who came out in droves to vote for Trump, even when the polls said they wouldn’t.
It still doesn’t make it right that Congress, controlled by Republicans, can’t pass anything of legislative importance, and members instead seem quite content to stand idly and watch as Trump signs executive orders, fights off media-fueled attacks, or sells his agenda directly to the people. And when he does? That’s when they speak — more often than not, critically.
Republicans need to get a grip and start realizing that Trump, believe it or not, represents the will of the people. Those who can’t see their way to that conclusion are likely, very likely, going to face voter upset come re-election. Simply put, conservatives don’t take kindly to Republicans who side with Democrats.
