NEW ORLEANS (AP) - Authorities are searching one end of the huge lake north of New Orleans after a report of a man in the water, and have found an overturned boat.

The Coast Guard says it got a report shortly before 9 a.m. Tuesday about a man without a life vest in Lake Pontchartrain (PONCH-uh-trane).

The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries says its agents have recovered an overturned 12-foot flatboat with a trolling motor, plus an ice chest and other items.

Louisiana State Police and the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office also are searching the area near the New Orleans end of the Highway 11 bridge to Slidell.

Lake Pontchartrain is a brackish tidal basin about 40 miles (64 kilometers) east to west, and 25 miles (40 kilometers) north to south.
