NORTH VERSAILLES, Pa. (AP) - Authorities in western Pennsylvania say a large fight prompted a brief lockdown of a suburban Pittsburgh school.

The superintendent of the East Allegheny School District in North Versailles (Vehr-SAYLS’) says the 12:30 p.m. Friday brawl occurred in the Junior-Senior High School cafeteria. Superintendent Donald MacFann said about eight to 10 students, both boys and girls, were involved.

The president of the teachers’ union told WPXI-TV that one teacher injured his knee and was punched in the face several times. MacFann said no one was transported to a hospital.

Police and a few other departments responded and the school was placed on lockdown for about 20 minutes as a precaution. MacFann said surveillance video will be reviewed and he will work with police on charges if they are deemed warranted.
