BALTIMORE (AP) - The board of the Baltimore public library system has appointed a new president, filling the position vacated by the current Library of Congress head.

The Baltimore Sun reports (https://bsun.md/2oh9rPh ) that Ohio librarian Heidi Daniel will lead the Enoch Pratt Free Library. The system is now in the midst of a $115 million renovation focusing on digital modernization of its central branch.

Daniel has overseen construction and digital expansion projects as head of the Youngstown and Mahoning County systems in Ohio.

The Pratt system operates on a $40 million budget, managing 22 branches and 500 employees. Gordon Karabbe has served as interim president after longtime president Carla Hayden became Librarian of Congress in 2016.

Daniel begins her new position Aug. 1.
