Responding the air strikes in Syria, Rep. Thomas Massie unearthed a tweet from Donald Trump in which he demanded that then-President Obama receive congressional approval before green-lighting an attack on the war torn nation.

“#Bigmistake,” Mr. Massie, Kentucky Republican, posted on his Twitter account alongside an August 2013 post from Mr. Trump.

“The President must get Congressional approval before attacking Syria- big mistake if he does not!” Mr. Trump said at the time.

Mr. Trump announced Thursday night that he had ordered the missile strike on a Syrian air base in response to a chemical strike that U.S. officials said was carried out by Syrian President Bashar Assad.

Mr. Massie is among a group of libertarian conservatives that have long warned against military adventurism and emphasized the Constitution gives Congress, not the president, the power to declare war
