WELLFLEET, Mass. (AP) - The National Park Service is making more room for kite surfers on the Cape Cod National Seashore.

The Cape Cod Times reports (https://bit.ly/2o14hVm ) the move comes after one surfer filed a lawsuit accusing the government of setting unfair limits on the sport.

The government agency originally restricted kite surfing to a section of shore on Cape Cod Bay in Wellfleet to protect shorebirds.

Surfer Holly Kuhn argued that the regulation was not backed by scientific evidence.

She dropped her lawsuit after the park service decided last month to open up two stretches of shoreline in Eastham during the summer for kite surfing. Officials say the area doesn’t support shorebird nesting and has been largely dormant for almost two decades.
