President Trump said Thursday that he is prepared to press Chines President Xi Jinping on trade and North Korea when the two leaders meet later in Florida, but he said the outcome of the talks are far from certain.
“It’s going to be very interesting. Nobody really knows,” Mr. Trump said in an interview with Fox News’ “Fox & Friends” program.
Mr. Trump said it was time for a U.S. president to stand up to China on trade, an issue that was front and center in his campaign, including vows to crack down on Beijing’s currency manipulation.
“We have not been treated fairly on trade for many, many years. No president has taken care of it the way we should have,” said Mr. Trump, who did the interview before a wounded warriors event at the White House.
Mr. Trump is scheduled to meet Mr. Xi for dinner Thursday night at the president’s Mar-a-Lago resort in Palm Beach, Florida. The meetings will continue Friday.
The president said that he would press China to help address the threat of North Korea.

“We have a big problem with North Korea. We’re going to see what happens,” Mr. Trump said. “We’ll be in there pitching, and I think we are going to do very well.”
