DAVENPORT, Iowa (AP) - An eastern Iowa judge has ordered a competency evaluation for a Texas woman charged in the death of a woman in a downtown Davenport crash.
The Quad-City Times reports (https://bit.ly/2o1ILjy ) the judge expressed concern Wednesday that 57-year-old Lauria Lee Kelly, of Alvarado, Texas, may not be mentally fit to stand trial. Investigators say in court documents that Kelly had a “distorted sense of reality” following the crash and believed the Order of the Masons was chasing her. No drugs or alcohol were found in her system.
Kelly has pleaded not guilty to homicide by vehicle-reckless driving. She was arrested after a Jan. 30 crash in which a pickup she was driving slammed into the back a car driven by 53-year-old Cynthia Elaine Jones, of Davenport, who died.
