WESTBROOK, Maine (AP) - A 52-year-old Maine woman who at one time served as Westbrook’s tax collector will serve six months behind bars for embezzling $118,000 from city coffers.

The Portland Press Herald reports (https://bit.ly/2naFxNn ) the U.S. attorney’s Office announced the sentencing of Ann Marie Williams on Tuesday.

Williams pleaded guilty in September to skimming cash payments made by residents to the city of Westbrook from July 2015 to April 2016.

The Falmouth woman was fired from her position and charged by police after her bank reported suspicious activity in her account to authorities.

Her attorney said in court filings that Williams suffers from depression, post-traumatic disorder and financial and emotional demands of single parenthood.
