OPINION:
Thought you have heard it all? Think again. Apparently we have passed the issue of gender identity and have now moved onto race identity. That’s right. Could you potentially be “transracial?” According to Rachel Dolezal, absolutely.
Now, for those of you who don’t remember Dolezal, she was the blonde haired, blue eyed white woman who passed herself off as a black woman for years. As President of the Spokane, Washington NAACP chapter, Dolezal rose through the ranks of the NAACP before being outed by her white parents as a white woman in 2015. Shortly later, she resigned as President of the NAACP chapter and we all went back to living our lives.
However, Dolezal is back claiming in her new book that she is “trans-black” and that race is nothing more than a social construct that one can choose. According to Dolezal, if I wake up tomorrow and feel like I am Chinese inside, then I am “trans-Chinese” and should be recognized as Chinese.
Either this woman is completely insane and in need of mental help or she is a lying con artist who is laughing all the way to the bank. Either way, CNN and MSNBC anchors are actually taking this seriously and using airtime to discuss this.
Don Lemon even tried to argue to Montell Williams that Dolezal could potentially be “trans-black” because her white parents adopted black children, she married a black man and allegedly had a black Raggedy Ann doll as a child.
The reasoning being used here is beyond asinine. I had a Mulan doll as a kid, but I’m still Italian. I did not grow up to be Mulan. Like Montel Williams, I’m just not buying it. I don’t believe in “trans-black” and have enough commonsense to know that race is not just a social construct. The whole idea of being “transracial” is honestly quite offensive and completely off base.
Take a seat, Dolezal. We’ve heard enough.
P.S. You are white.
