NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (AP) - Authorities say they have arrested a Newport News man after he walked into a public library with a machete.

News outlets report 29-year-old Rashawn Lamar Robinson was charged on Monday with possession of a concealed weapon after he brought a machete to the Pearl Bailey Library in Newport News.

Police spokeswoman Jamie Bastas says when police approach Lewis he attempted to stand up from the chair, but the handle of weapon got stuck.

Bastas says officers detained Lewis and found a machete in his pants.

It’s not clear if Lewis has an attorney.
