ROCK HILL, S.C. (AP) - The former captain of the Rock Hill Rescue Squad has been arrested on a charge of taking more than $9,200 of the squad’s money.

Media outlets report the State Law Enforcement Division arrested 57-year-old Joseph David Shackelford Jr. on Monday.

The Rock Hill Rescue Squad operated for decades before closing in 2015.

According to a SLED arrest warrant, the theft took place between July 2014 and December 2015 at the squad’s headquarters. Shackelford had been “entrusted with the finances” of the squad, and was one of three members with access to its bank account.

The warrant says SLED made the charges against Shackelford based on probably cause from financial records, law enforcement investigation, suspect statements and a witness.

It’s unclear if Shackelford has an attorney.
