MONACO (AP) - The governing body of track and field says long-time World Anti-Doping Agency official David Howman will chair the board of its Athletics Integrity Unit.

The IAAF says the new operation - to oversee anti-doping and investigate bribery, betting, race-fixing and age cheating - began work this week under the New Zealand official.

Howman was WADA’s respected CEO-like director general for 13 years until leaving last July.

The integrity unit to manage drug tests and run investigations was created after scandals linked to former president Lamine Diack and senior officials in his inner circle.

The IAAF says it hopes to hire the unit’s operating manager within a month.

The integrity unit will have offices and IT systems separate from the IAAF in Monaco, which was attacked by Russian hackers in February.
