The left-leaning media, working in concert with Democratic will, have launched an all-out last-minute attack on Supreme Court nominee Neil Gorsuch, accusing him of plagiarism.

It’s bogus, by independent accounts. But this is how the left works: Smear, disgrace, tear down, defame and defile. Anything to keep him from being confirmed, it seems.

The judge has penned literally thousands upon thousands of pages of documents and rulings as a judge — but the left, led now by Buzzfeed and Politico, apparently have found three instances where his writings seemed suspect.

Only plenty others say they’re not.

One person Gorsuch is accused of plagiarizing actually flatly denies he plagiarized.

“I have reviewed both passages and do not see an issue here, even if the language is similar,” said Abigail Lawlis Kozma, Breitbart reported. “Given that these passages both describe the basic facts of the case, it would have been awkward and difficult for Judge Gorsuch to have used different language.”

And another, emeritus professor Jon Finnis of Oxford University, said similarly.

“None of the allegations has any substance or justification,” he said.

But this, from Buzzfeed, a headline this week: “A Short Section in Neil Gorsuch’s 2006 Book Appears to be Copied From a Law Review Article.”

And this, from Politico, a separate headline: “Gorsuch’s writings borrow from other authors.”

The stories point to Gorsuch’s book, “The Future of Assisted Suicide and Euthanasia,” as being strangely akin to a 1984 article in the Indiana Law Journal. And they suggest an academic article Gorsuch penned was suspect, as well.

The White House has fired back.

“This false attack has been strongly refuted by highly-regarded academic experts, including those who reviewed, professionally examined and edited Judge Gorsuch’s scholarly writings, and even the author of the main piece cited in the false attack,” said White House spokesman Steven Cheung, Politico reported. “There is only one explanation for this baseless, last-second smear of Judge Gorsuch: those desperate to justify the unprecedented filibuster of a well-qualified and mainstream nominee to the Supreme Court.”

Quite right.

The left’s concerted attack against all-things-President Donald Trump marches on. But this latest instance, an attempted assassination of a well-regarded and esteemed member of the judiciary, however, is a new and despicable level of low, even for the left. The left is using its already minuscule store of political capital to stall and stymy a judicial candidate who’s not even that far-right in ideology, as far-right ideology scales go. And in the long game, that’s only good for Republicans.
