MADISON, Wis. (AP) - Wisconsin Supreme Court Justice Annette Ziegler is on the ballot unopposed for a second 10-year term.
No one came forward to challenge Ziegler, meaning she will emerge as the winner in Tuesday’s spring election.
While the race is officially nonpartisan, Ziegler won her first election to the court in 2007 with the backing of conservatives. Democrats were unable to field a candidate to challenge Ziegler for re-election.
That failure has led to criticism of the party since the race comes after Republicans won big in November’s election.
Ziegler was aggressively raising money and securing endorsements early in the race to scare off any challengers.
When Ziegler joined the court a decade ago, liberals held a 4-3 majority. Now conservatives have a 5-2 majority, which they will retain with Ziegler’s win.
