MADISON, Wis. (AP) - Gov. Scott Walker is making clear that his budget proposal would not result in seven people who were domestic partners of deceased government workers losing state health care coverage.
Walker’s administration on Tuesday submitted a letter to the Legislature making that and numerous technical changes to the $76 billion budget.
Under the fix, surviving domestic partners would be able to continue purchasing state health insurance even after the benefits are ended for other domestic partners. Under the change, domestic partners would have to be married to get state benefits.
In another fix, Walker inserts language to require the University of Wisconsin to hold tuition flat for one more year then cut it 5 percent the following year.
That was the intent of the budget, but there was no language requiring it.
