Twenty percent of those age 18 to 34, the so-called millennials — the snowflakes — now self-identify as LGBTQ, according to a new study published by the group Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation, GLAAD.

Incredible.

This is a huge cultural shift and for traditionalists, Christians and others who see the two-parent family headed by a mother and father, with DNA that corresponds to their female and male sexes, respectively. It’s a real face-slapper of a wake-up call to damaging societal trends.

Bluntly, the family is the cornerstone of society. As go the families, so goes the society.

The numbers on this poll tell this: Twenty percent of this millennial population considers themselves to be lesbian, gay, bisexual, transexual-transgender or otherwise queer — or a combination thereof. That’s in comparison to 12 percent of Generation Xers, ages 35 to 53, who self-identified in this same survey as LGBTQ and 7 percent of Baby Boomers, ages 52 to 71.

The takeaway, it would seem, at least on surface, is that America is growing gayer by the generation — more transgendered, more transexual.

That just doesn’t seem logical, though. It’s seriously doubtful fully 20 percent of millennials — a full fifth of that population — are truly lesbian, gay, bisexual, transexual-transgender or otherwise queer, or a combination thereof.

What’s more likely happening is a combination of skewed polling and a cultural embrace of an alternative lifestyle that says gender, sex, sexuality are as much matters of personal choice as deciding on rare versus medium for a dinnertime steak.

They’re not, of course. The determination of boy versus girl, for instance, is made by God. And no amount of politicking or protesting will change that. The LGBTQ activist movement stands squarely in the crosshairs of that basic truth, however.

GLAAD exists to, as it says, “rewrite the script for LGBTQ acceptance … to shape the narrative and provoke dialogue that leads to cultural change.” And under Barack Obama, that sure did happen. Obama managed to tear open girls’ bathrooms in public schools to boys, creating a mayhem and chaos the country’s still trying to deal with (can you say North Carolina bathroom bill?). The driving force behind this bathroom madness? The fantasy arguments of those who said, with straight face, that an individual can be whatever sex he or she wants, simply by donning certain clothes — simply by thinking he or she can.

This societal shift — the one that takes reason and crumples it into a ball and tosses it in the trash — comes with a price. While no LGBTQ individual should face persecution, harassment, punishment or violence, no LGBTQ ought to be able to dictate a nation’s policy based on individual choice, either.

Mandating Johnny use the boys’ room, as the North Carolina bathroom bill did, is not discriminatory — even if Johnny wants to wear a dress and call himself Janie. And if Johnny fights to use the girls’ room but is rebuffed, the problem is not society. It’s the mental health of the individual who’s living a lie and demanding everyone else join in that lie.

But GLAAD, as this poll shows, and others with similar pro-LGBTQ bent, has been winning big points for Johnny.

“More young people identifying outside of binaries means that we are at a place in our culture where youth today feel free and open to live their lives as their authentic selves,” said GLAAD President and CEO Sarah Kate Ellis, to NBC. “It is heartening to see the future of this country loosen the shackles of traditional identities and unapologetically embrace who they are.”

It’s great youth feel comfortable in this country in embracing their identities — made-up as those identifies might be. It’s not so great when these same youth think it right and proper their self-identifications, no matter how whimsical, no matter how fabricated, be enshrined in national policy and crammed down the rest of society’s throats as some sort of new law or regulation.

It’s heartening to see this nation, after so many years since its founding, continue to foster and thrive as a free society — one that, say, doesn’t mandate women wear burqas to walk in public, or that gays be tossed from building tops as punishment for violating a religion. It’s not so heartening to see the LGBTQ movement try and characterize traditionalists as dungeon masters, wielders of the shackles and holders of the key.

Christians and traditionalists don’t hate LGBTQs.

What they do hate is being told they’re discriminatory because they believe in the Bible and believe that the fundamental basis of a society is one of God’s most basic of creations, the family unit. And what they hate is being forced to accept laws and requirements and policies and political arguments that are special interest in nature, but that are sold as norms — with those who oppose, painted as oppressive in nature.

From NBC: “When asked whether she expects the percentage of people who identify as LGBTQ to continue to rise in future generations, Ellis said, ’absolutely.’ “

GLAAD will make sure of it — you can count on that.
