LIVERPOOL, England (AP) - Liverpool manager Juergen Klopp has raised the prospect of being without forward Sadio Mane for the rest of the season, intensifying the team’s injury problems at a crucial time in the Premier League.
Mane, Liverpool’s top scorer this season with 13 league goals, limped off with a knee injury during the Merseyside derby against Everton on Saturday.
Asked Tuesday if Mane’s injury was season-ending, Klopp said “unfortunately that is possible” but couldn’t give an exact timeframe for the player’s absence because further examinations are due.
Liverpool is already without midfielders Adam Lallana and Jordan Henderson because of injury.
Klopp’s team won once in seven matches when the Senegal international was last absent for a long period, in January, during the African Nations Cup.
Liverpool is third in the Premier League with eight games left.
