DAVENPORT, Iowa (AP) - A road worker has died after his vehicle was hit by a semitrailer on Interstate 80.
The Quad-City Times reports (https://bit.ly/2o6yKnn ) that the crash was reported late Monday night eastbound I-80, just east of the Interstate 74 overpass.
Investigators say a pickup truck driven by an employee of Hawkeye Paving, which was doing maintenance work on the roadway, backed into the traveled portion of eastbound I-80 and was struck by the semi.
Authorities say the driver of the pickup suffered fatal injuries. The driver’s name has not yet been released. Officials say the semi driver was taken to a local hospital with injuries not believed to be life-threatening.
The investigation is being conducted by Davenport police.
