LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) - The FBI has launched a criminal investigation of allegations that Louisville Metro Police officers sexually abused a member of the department’s Youth Explorer program.
FBI Special Agent David Habich tells The Courier-Journal (https://cjky.it/2owir49) that the agency conducted an initial review at the request of Mayor Greg Fischer’s office and the Metro Council. A criminal investigation began subsequently.
Habich says he can’t further comment on the case.
In addition to contacting the FBI, Fischer also hired former U.S. Attorney Kerry Harvey to review the investigation conducted by Louisville Metro Police and determine whether “errors were made.”
A lawsuit filed on behalf of a participant in the Youth Explorers program charges that his alleged rape by two officers was “concealed” by department officials.
