LAS VEGAS (AP) - Municipal elections were underway Tuesday in Las Vegas, where ex-state Assemblywoman Michele Fiore was among 10 candidates vying for one of three open city council seats.
Voters also were casting ballots for mayor and two city council seats in North Las Vegas, and mayor and one city council seat in Henderson.
Candidates who receive more than 50 percent of the vote will be declared winners. If a race doesn’t reach that threshold, the top two vote-getters advance to a June 13 general election.
Fiore is an outspoken conservative and gun-rights defender who left her seat in the Assembly last year after a failed bid for a Republican congressional nomination.
She’s running in Ward 6 in the northwest part of Las Vegas, where incumbent Steve Ross must leave office due to term limits. His wife, Kelli Ross, is also running along with Clark County School Board member Chris Garvey and longtime deputy city marshal Thaddeus Ynigues.
Henderson City Councilwoman Debra March is among seven candidates trying to replace outgoing Mayor Andy Hafen, who can’t run again because of term limits.
Others include Rick Workman, who lost to Hafen in the 2013 election, and Eddie Hamilton, a perennial candidate who most recently lost in the Republican primary for U.S. Senate.
North Las Vegas Mayor John Lee faces two challengers with no prior political experience - Gary Bouchard and DeQuincy Taylor.

Eds: This story corrects an earlier version that misidentified the mayors of Henderson and North Las Vegas. Andy Hafen is the mayor of Henderson and is not seeking re-election. John Lee is the mayor of North Las Vegas and is running for re-election. Bouchard is a challenger, not the incumbent.
